Layered Fallbacks

Notes

  • Blended processes where content may be translated in one of many ways, from MT, Crowd to Professional Translation.
  • The system may start with MT, until someone in the crowd translates it, or it gets assigned to a professional.

Context

This practice applies when planning any Collaborative translation initiative, but it is particularly important for Translation crowdsourcing projects.

Problem description

Collaborative translation is still in its infancy, and its failure rate is still relatively high.

Solution

Therefore, make sure your Collaborative Translation system supports blended processes where content may be translated in one of many ways, including raw MT, Translation crowdsourcing and translation by a dedicated team of professionals.

Also, it should be possible to transition seamlessly to a different mode, if you find out that the original mode is not working in your particular context.
